A shop for bread with a short shelf life

Stacja Chleba bakes with natural sourdough, without baker's yeast or improvers. Bread like that has to be baked for a specific day and shipped before it dries out, so the shop couldn't work like ordinary e-commerce. We built the whole system: the website, the shop, the subscription and the e-mails, and every day the bakery knows what to bake and what to send.

Cart, delivery and payments

The rye bread comes with eight topping variants, and every loaf in an order can have a different one. The product page reduces buying to a single row: choose the topping, the quantity, “Add to cart”. In the cart, customers see how much is missing for cheaper shipping, and below it they get suggestions for extras such as a bread bin for storing the loaf.

Shipping is an InPost parcel locker, with the pick-up point chosen at checkout, or an InPost courier. The price depends on the cart value and the number of loaves, the thresholds are configurable, and the biggest orders ship free. Customers see the planned shipping date straight away, because orders paid before noon leave on the nearest production day. Before the weekend there is a “weekend shipping” option with a surcharge.

Payments are handled exclusively by Przelewy24, so an order goes into production only once it is paid. Bank transfer and cash on delivery are switched off so that nobody bakes bread for an order that no one will pay for. Invoices are issued automatically by Fakturownia.

A subscription with a configurator and recurring payments

The subscription is the shop's most important feature. The configurator guides customers through four steps: frequency (twice a week, weekly, every two weeks, monthly), products with a topping for each loaf, shipping days and a summary with the price. It takes about two minutes.

Subsequent orders create themselves. The first card payment saves the details with Przelewy24, and renewals are charged automatically before shipping.

Customers can pause the subscription in their account by giving a date range, and the card is not charged during the pause. The bakery has its own holiday mode: the break dates, a message on the site, an automatic pause of all subscriptions and a resume after the return.

Customer account, newsletter and GDPR

In My account, customers browse their orders and subscriptions, see the shipping status, the parcel locker or courier address, and manage the pause. There is also a privacy centre: data export and account deletion with one button, in line with the WordPress privacy tools.

The cookie banner has three levels of consent, and analytics and marketing scripts load only after acceptance. Newsletter sign-up works from the checkout, the footer and the home page, with e-mail confirmation (double opt-in), one-click unsubscribe and a sign-up limit against abuse.

Mailing that works for the bakery

Transactional e-mails have their own branded template and Polish copy: an order confirmation with the shipping date, a “Your order is on its way” message once shipping is marked, a subscription renewal e-mail, and notifications about suspension, cancellation and expiry. In subscription e-mails the customer can see whether it is the first or a subsequent parcel.

Subscribers automatically get an e-mail before the bakery's holiday and after its return, each only once.

A website, SEO and content the client edits on their own

The site has products, FAQ, reviews, about us and contact, and the “Where to buy” map shows shops that sell the bread, by city, with location search and a subpage for shops that want to stock it. The team changes the copy, company details, footer and pick-up hours in one place, the shop settings, following the PDF guide we prepared for them.

We took care of SEO: metadata, structured data, canonical URLs, a sitemap and redirects from the old site. We measured the performance of the home page and the mobile view on real devices.
